Cleaning up the beaches

Every year in September, volunteers come to  Sherwood Island State Park to take part in the annual  International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), an effort that depends on thousands of volunteers worldwide.
The ICC is sponsored by The Ocean Conservancy. In organizing the cleanup and data collection at Sherwood Island, the Friends work with Save the Sound, the Connecticut coordinator.
Every year since 2002 there has been a large contingent from the Ridgefield chapter of the National Charity League.
NCL is a non-profit  organization of mothers and daughters who join together in community involvement within local chapters throughout the United States. Its goal is to foster a sense of community responsibility in the girls as well as to strengthen the mother-daughter relationship.
