Sherwood Island State Park, on the shore of Long Island Sound in Westport Connecticut, is a peninsula that covers 234 acres of beach, wetlands and woodlands. People come to the park to hike, bike, ski, swim, fish, study nature, watch birds, fly kites, fly model airplanes, play volleyball, picnic, or just relax under the trees.

On the point at the center of the park's shoreline, there is a  Black Cherry tree that can be seen from miles around. Today it watches over the 9-11 Memorial. This picture was taken at dusk from the patio of the pavilion. Nearby, the Impressionist Art Trail Viewpoint.
The West side
West of the Point, beyond the West Beach, there is a walking trail through the West Woods (an oak forest). Behind the beach lies the western salt marsh. North of the marsh, a viewing platform overlooks the Sherwood Mill Pond. Under the trees, there are walking trails and picnic benches.
The East side
East of the Point, behind the East Beach, the Tidal Marsh Nature Trail runs along the large eastern salt marsh to the creek that separates the park from Burying Hill beach. Also on the East side, the popular model airplane field.
